That time of the year has come around again. With winter setting it's the perfect time to get your outboard motor serviced ready for next season. If storing your boat over the winter months it's also highly recommended to winterise your outboard motor ready for the cold period.

Why?
Outboard motors are a very costly part of your boat and to protect your investment it's critical that they are correctly protected during storage and the colder months. Below we have outlined some important factors to consider when deciding whether to winterise your outboard motor.
Fuel Stabiliser
Using a fuel stabiliser is important with modern ethanol enhanced petrol (E10) as it is very susceptible to moisture as it will absorb any condensation. This is overcome by using a correct fuel stabiliser.
Fogging Oil
With the popularity of four stroke engines over the recent years, protecting your motor with fogging oil is more important than ever because of the many steel and cast iron parts used in their construction. Unlike traditional two stroke engines components which have an oily residue, four stroke components are more susceptible to rust if not protected correctly.
Electrical System
Electrical systems should be properly checked over for such things as signs of corrosion, connections and general wiring condition. It's also important to check the health of your battery and to ensure its fully charged, ready for when it's next used.

Help prevent potential motor problems by servicing your outboard motor at the end of the season and winterising it ready for storage. By doing this you won't be disappointed when using your boat next season and will prolong your motors life for many years to come.
